In Istanbul, the district of your appointment should decide your hotel and which airport you fly into. Doing it the other way round costs you an extra hour in traffic every day.
This article contains no clinical or treatment advice. It covers travel times between districts and accommodation logistics only.
European side
Şişli, Nişantaşı, Mecidiyeköy
The densest area for healthcare facilities. Plenty of hotels, strong metro links. About 40 km from IST, 45-60 minutes. 45 km from SAW, but bridge traffic makes it 60-90 minutes.
Beşiktaş, Levent, Etiler
Next to Şişli and quieter. Hotel prices run a little higher. 40-45 km from IST, 50-65 minutes.
Fatih, Aksaray
Close to the historic peninsula. More affordable accommodation, but heavy traffic and difficult parking. 45 km from IST, 50-70 minutes.
Asian side
Ataşehir, Kozyatağı
The central area closest to SAW: 30 km, 30-45 minutes. If your appointment is on the Asian side, both your hotel and your airport follow from here.
Kadıköy, Bostancı
By the sea, pleasant for walking on recovery days. 25-35 km from SAW, 30-50 minutes.
The one thing to check when choosing a hotel
Before price and star rating, look at the distance between the hotel and your appointment address. Same side of the city and within 20 minutes, and you save hours across a few days. Different sides, and every round trip takes two hours.
Bridge traffic
Crossings between the two sides clog at predictable hours: Asian to European in the morning, the reverse in the evening. If you can avoid scheduling across those windows, it is the easiest time you will ever save here.
Why the same driver matters
Over several days, explaining the address to a new driver each time wears you down. The same driver knows the address from day two, knows which road is clear at which hour, and you explain nothing.
